Consumer Finance Institute Website

In 2017 the Philadelphia Fed launched the Consumer Finance Institute (CFI), a new centre of excellence bringing together leading edge research on consumer credit and payment systems. Bank and departmental leadership charged me with designing a new and distinct brand identity to pair with a new website for CFI. I designed the site to do three things: 1) feature the latest research, 2) showcase the economists and contributors, and 3) highlight the latest conferences and events hosted and attended by the staff.

From Idea to Live in Just Six Months

From the beginning I worked closely with key stakeholders to understand the business needs of the project in addition to the essential nature of the institute and its research. User research and rapid prototyping provided everyone with the opportunity to understand the vision and generate the necessary buy-in at an early stage. In six months my team successfully delivered a brand new section of the Bank website dedicated to the institute.

Leadership and stakeholders provided a clear and consistent statement of purpose for the Consumer Finance Institute, and I worked with them and the rest of the team to shape that into the vision for the institute’s external communications, most notably with the site. Wireframes, mockups, and prototypes showed the evolution of the site’s design before we committed to development. My team also provided developers with a technical specifications document as the site would be taking full advantage of the content management system’s full features, a first for the Bank’s overall website.

Throughout the development process, I collaborated with our developers and stakeholders to identify features as high- and low-priorities, which allowed us to generate a list of backlog items for future design and development work. Simultaneously I created most of the graphics and collateral assets necessary for the site’s launch. I also worked with a third party web application purchased by the institute to tie its look and feel to CFI’s. Finally I even helped write and refine the institute’s mission statement, which featured prominently on the site’s landing page at launch.
