My Design Portfolio

With 15+ years’ experience, I have seen and done a few things; with some very broad role descriptions, I have worked in a number of areas of design; and given my team sizes from two to twelve, I have provided very high-level strategy and innovation to sweating the nuts and bolts. But you can read more about that in my professional history, because here I want to present you with my portfolio, grouped into some broad buckets.

Information Design

If I had to identify a single consistent thread through the tapestry of my career, my work with data and information would be that connective link. Finding and telling a story with data or information remains a passion of mine—that is partly why I started my blog Coffeespoons.

User Experience (UX) Design

How can I help people find the information or data they need? How can I help people find helpful analysis? How can I help people purchase the correct subscription, the right report? How can I surface valuable, but unseen or unknown content? How can I sort and categorise all the information?

Editorial Design

I love books. If you go to the very beginning of my résumé you will find my very first job was as a clerk at a bookstore. Long before I heard the word “typography”, I knew certain pages and layouts were easier and more pleasant to read. How do I pair this text, image, chart, and map on the page—or screen? Should I spike the article? Should I bury the lede? What typeface speaks to the content?

Brand Design

What typeface speaks to the brand? In all the above, my interest in data visualisation and information design may thread through the tapestry, but what colours, tones, typography, language, symbolism, &c. can weave disparate threads of a patchwork quilt into a coherent, corporate aesthetic?
